The Best Things Come in Small Packages...

The world loves things in micro form. That’s a pretty obvious fact, I know. But
our obsession with making things tinier and tinier is actually quite fascinating. I
can’t say that when a well-loved product launches its new smaller, thinner,
sleeker version, my eyes don’t pop with wonderment.

Technology has moved at lightning pace in the last ten years, it’s hard to keep up with all the new and exciting changes. But one thing is incredible whether you keep updated or not...How does technology become ever more advanced, in such small models?

Laptops have got thinner, PC monitors sleeker, MP3s are virtually non-existent to hold; a radical change considering that less than ten years ago, we barely had access to emails on the move. Tablet PCs have changed the game yet again, now that we can do practically anything, all on the move and by carrying a device that is no bigger than a thin notebook. Downloading movies, books, accessing emails and the internet, getting directions, making calls, playing games; these were things we could barely even dream of in the early 1990s.

Twenty years ago, the few of us who had mobile phones walked around with big blocks attached to our ears. Over the years they have got smaller and smaller, as designers came up with innovative ways to make things miniscule without compromising the quality (or frankly just coming up with ways you could still see the screen!) Anyone remember the Samsung u550? So minute, the designers came up with a flip screen for customers to still be able to see it without a magnifying glass.

Our want of small technology is just in our nature. We don’t want to carry around or use heavy, bulky products. We want to travel lightly. We want minimal fuss, instant access and great quality in one.

I saw the game change yet again when I tried out the new Bitmore e-Atom. The best things certainly do come in small packages. The world’s smallest wireless portable Bluetooth speaker certainly does pack a punch. The bass is incredible for such a small speaker and the beauty about this little thing is that you can carry it anywhere, even on your keychain! And just like the e-Wave and e-Storm speakers, it also has a conference calling feature, which means you can take your calls on it. All that in a speaker no more than 3.8 cm tall!!! Wow! Just amazing!

As the world, and all the gadgets in it, keep getting smaller, how does the future look for the next wave of technological advances? At this rate, it doesn’t look like sizes can shrink much more...or maybe I’m wrong.
